The four-lobe X-ring design prevents spiral failure in reciprocating applications and performs in rotary duty as well. HNBR gives higher temperature capability than standard NBR while retaining resistance to petroleum oils, motor oils, sour gas and oxidised fuels.
The four-lobe X-section is the remedy for spiral failure — the twisting an O-ring suffers in reciprocating duty. The lobes also give two sealing lines and a lubricant reservoir between them, so breakout friction is lower and the seal lasts longer than an equivalent O-ring.
